Tony Crisp Interpretation:
Many dreams show how we gain much of our identity out of our sexual relationship or lack of it. Men and women often feel they are inadequate or lacking in personal worth if they are not in a relationship where their partner is fascinated by them sexually. As suggested in the entry on individuation, our sense of personal value and positive existence may be constructed from many things, but can ultimately become less dependent upon particulars such as physical attractiveness or sexual partnership. While the identity is still dependent upon sexual partnership, lack of sexual intercourse can produce powerful feelings of loneliness, loss of self-esteem, and a strange feeling of isolation and distance from other people—especially one’s sexual partner. This brings about an urge to establish sexual contact again, and illustrates the dependence one has upon sex for a sense of well-being. See gender.
